I, like most people, hate colds.
Just two Fridays ago I got one that lasted a little over five days. I JUST BARELY completely recovered in time for Halloween!
I know it sucks worse to have a cold during the holidays, because normally this is the time when sweets come out (even for us who usually can't afford extras that're usually very sugary). And you don't want to miss out.
My methods for getting rid of colds is to pile on the blankets at night, sleep alot, eat no bread or milk (or anything remotely containing sugar), drinking lots of water/fruit beverages/citrus-y things, and snacking on salty things and all dinners must include GARLIC and lots of it.
If all this fails, I cook up a batch of what's called
Monkey Sweat..the most VILE concoction probably known to man. It's tomato soup loaded with garlic, black pepper, hot pepper, and onion in it. It tastes DIGUSTING, but after choking down a mug of it (which trust me, is all you can manage)...you're usually better by the next day.
How about you? What're your home cold/flu remedies?

I love garlic! I usually eat some spicy food to help with the sore throat. I also enjoy brewing up some "Gollum Juice". I learned about that recipe in the Lord of the Rings special features, where they show how Andy Serkis could manage to keep his voice healthy while doing lots of Gollum acting. Sucking on a non-menthol throat drop or candy helps keep the tickle away (I hate menthol, gives me a belly ache). No Monkey Sweat for me, though!

Gollum juice sounds yummy! Garlic is probably one of the best herbs ever, imo =D
I don't blame you on the Monkey Sweat thing, though. I only ever do that if I'm desperate, and always regret it...but hey, it works lmao.
